When developers are tasked with a difficult project, there are many resources to turn to; books and Google are the most widely used. But what happens if those fail to provide the needed direction and guidance? Many times you set down a path using your best judgment and hope everything works out in the end.
The recent DevConnections Conference, which I along with five of Geonetric’s developers attended, validated many of my feelings. During sessions on the first day, it became very clear to me that we have found the correct solutions to many complex problems that others struggle with.
One of these common problems, which Geonetric happens to excel at, is the ability to design and implement complex javascript-based user interfaces. While attending the session detailing the “must knows” of javascript for Asp.Net developers, I was able to think of at least one example of each tip the presenter listed that we use in VitalSite, our content management solution.
At times, as a developer, it can feel as though you’re paddling out in the middle of the ocean searching for land, and when someone of authority tells you that you are, in fact paddling in the correct direction and land is just over the horizon, it gives you a pretty good case of the warm and fuzzies.
